10 Productive and Fun skills to develop which decrease stress and cultivate you as an individual.

It is a stressful world which we live in and dealing with all sorts of situations and people can leave us feeling utterly drained and tired at the end of the day.

If you feel you really need a break from your everyday life, if you want to do something different and enjoyable and at the same time aspire to develop a new skill, here are some of the more creative and unique ideas that can fulfill all the longings you have of becoming a happier, wiser, more confident, productive and a better individual in general. Another good thing? There’s little money involved, so you’re go to go. Read on :

1. Learn the First Aid basics.

Knowledge of first aid is one of the most important – and one of the most overlooked – aspect in the life of every single individual who walks this Earth. An emergency can arise at any place and any time and first aid can be the only thing that makes the difference between life and death of the victim.

So, browse the internet for something beneficial for once. Look up how to make a basic first aid kit, the medicines and tools and how to use them. Learn what you should do in various situations of emergency.

All the while knowing that your knowledge can actually save someone’s life out there will give you an immense sense of satisfaction.

2. Clay modelling

Who said only children can play with clay? And anyway, isn’t it true that there is a child in all of us? Or have you given yourself up to become that grumpy, serious, self-important tortoise to be labelled as “mature”?

Clay modelling is one of the most enjoyable activities you could do in your life! Buy a box of colorful clay and mould it this way and that to create anything you want. The squelching and squishing of soft clay in your hands will give you a peculiar sense of satisfaction and relieve that mental tension you are so adept at giving yourself.

3. Learn a Martial Art or other self defense techniques.

This, along with first aid, is probably one of the most important things in your life you’ll thank youself for learning.

Be it taekwondo, karate, ju-jitsu or any of the numerous number of techniques out there – pick one and enroll yourself to learn at least the basics of it thoroughly.

Apart from being a recreation, it will teach you the basics of self defense, which, in a world like today, would come in handy anytime and anywhere, should a situation arise.

4. Knitting

This is my new personal favourite. For those who knit, you will know how knitting strangely helps you sort out your thoughts, increases your focus and gets you in a meditation like state, which can alomst leave you feeling as if you are in a trance.

For those who are skeptical, right now giving amused expressions or saying “it’s what women do”, “I don’t have patience for that kind of stuff” or “I don’t know how to knit”, I would request you to at least try it once.

Knitting is one of the simplest and the most useful skills you can learn. One simple knot and you can knit a whole range of clothes from mufflers to sweaters and socks and so much more.

So, buy two knitting needles (big, fat ones for a start) and a yarn of wool (again, the fat, fluffy one) , get help from a friend who knows how to knit or from a YouTube video, and start creating!

5. Keep a DIY Journal.

Get a diary or a notebook with plain, unruled pages and get to work. For a start, design the cover yourself. Go out and buy craft papers, washi tapes, stickers and colorful pens and start creating a colorful life.

There are thousands of things you can put in you journal including your mood calendar, expenses, wish lists, habit trackers etc. The best thing is that you don’t have to be overtly artistic. You just have to be yourself because it is YOUR journal and no one is going to be seeing it.

But if you do want it to be pretty, you can learn calligraphy (Voila! One more skill learnt!😊) and have the best journal in the world!

Journaling will help you set your life in order, enhace you creativity and help calm you down in a creative way. It’s all a win win in the end.

6.Learn about make-up and skincare.

No – this isn’t only for the girls. The art if make-up, today, is a basic skill that everyone, be it a woman or a man, must know. It’s not at all about foundations and lipsticks. It’s simply about knowing how to emhance certain features you might like about yourself and putting your best foot forward.

Make-up enhances your confidence. When you know you look good, confidence comes easily from within.

For those who wouldn’t budge from the notion that putting make-up on is superficial & done by people who are not comfortable in their own skin – you can learn how to improve your skin quality and be even more comfortable in it. Skin is the largest organ of the the body and a healthy skin represents a healthy individual.

Look up natural ways to take care of your skin. As an example, there are recipies of numerous masks on the internet, the ingredients of which can be found in your kitchen.

So, open up your YouTube and watch some of the numerous videos on makeup and skincare. You’ll be having fun and learning something new at the same time!

7. Learn to dress up properly.

Ours is a casual world with more focus on “being ourselves” and “not caring about what others think”. It’s all well and good, but if we also paid equal importance to “improving ourselves”, the world would be so much better a place to live in! And where better to start than improving the way we present ourselves?

T-shirts and shorts are all good and nice, but each occasion demands a different kind of dress up. Look up on basic requirements of a wardrobe, learn to color code and see how you can improvise with what you already have.

Learn to dress up appropriately for different occasions. You don’t have to spend thousands to improve your wardrobe. If you do want a complete makeover, start slowly and save for it. Big changes take time.

Learning to dress up properly is an enjoyable activity and a good outfit will change how you you feel about yourself, which will reflect on your personality and make you a more respectable person on the whole – in your own eyes and that of others’.

8. Choose an outdoor sport – and devote time to it.

Be it football, basketball, baseball, cricket, swimming, athletics or any other sport out there. Choose one and learn it thoroughly. If you have never played any, go out and see where you can be coached and taught any sport of your choice. At the least, join the gym.

The goal is to participate in a vigorous exercise even if it’s only for half an hour.

You can channel all your stress and frustrations out while you play, and you’ll be left feeling happy and satisfied by the time you’re done.

Additionally, your body shape and posture will improve and you’ll feel more confident about yourself.

9. Get DIY-ing

DIY activities are creative and stress relieving affairs that at the same time can help you save loads of money if you do them right! You can make bookmarks, dreamcatchers, home decor, diaries, lamps. . .basically an infinite number of things yourself, even your own make-up and skin care products that you can completely trust because hey! they were made by you.

So, browse the internet, open YouTube and see what interests you and what you can make. My personal favourite YouTube channel for DIY is sarabeautycorner [same names are a complete conincindence :)]. She has various amazing DIY ideas, food hacks , morning and night routines, life hacks and the videos are lively, high definition and full of color.

Below is a link to one of her numerous videos. See if you like it!πŸ˜‰

10. Cultivate Reading Habits.

Reading a book has all advantages and no disadvantage. Excess of anything might be bad, but reading is an exception here (as long as you’re physically active & on a good diet). Reading takes you to a different realm, helping you escape reality, which, believe it or not, can help you calm down tremendously.

For those who say they don’t have the patience for reading, you simply haven’t found the right book! Reading is not an inborn habit. It is slowly cultivated. As an additional benefit, reading greatly enhances your vocabulary, helping you to express yourself more clearly and accurately, making you come across as a more cultivated individual.

So go ahead, start with a book with big lettering and spacing if need be, but atleast give it a try. Reading is the most enjoyable activity you would do in your life – of you have the right book by your side!

That’s all for now! I hope you liked the post and found some good ideas to make your life a more cheerful one! Input good things in your life and the output life gives you will always be sweet. If you liked the post, please like and share. See you soon! Until then, Au revoir!😊

Introverts : What they are and what it means to be one.

Yes, I said “what” they are and not “who” they are because introverts tend to be treated like a different species in themselves. In the twentieth century, introversion was treated like a disease – an abnormality – something that hasn’t changed much over the years, except that some people out there are finally making an effort to understand what introversion is and how introverts live their lives and affect the lives of those around them.

Being an introvert myself (sometimes to the extremes), I have faced the many pros and cons of being the quiet one among people who excel at talking (sometimes, a lot).

Carl Jung – the renowned psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and also the founder of analytical psychology, proposed a theory -for the first time- of different types of personalities; the two major ones being the extroverts and introverts. His theory became the basis of the popular ‘Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Personality Test’ , where a set of questions were given and based on the answers, the person was classified into one of the 16 different personalities.

You can take the Personality Test here:

Introverts are not abnormal, other-worldly, weird people. And they are certainly not weak. If you are an introvert, have a friend who is one or if you are an extrovert trying to understand “The Quiet One’s” way of life, consider the following :

  • They like to think – and think thoroughly. They’re busy processing every information they’ve received (through media, books or people) through and through. They look quiet, but their brain is always on an overdrive, twisting and turning every bit of information until they reach their own conclusion about it. Yes, they sometimes tend to overthink, but that’s a minor setback compared to the enormous amount of insight and knowledge they gain through their thought process.

  • They speak only when they feel it’s absolutely necessary to. For example if you say something grossly wrong (general knowledge or otherwise) or something that personally affects them at a deeper level. Lightweight talks or small arguments won’t have them opening their mouths.

  • It’s not the crowd that makes them uncomfortable. It’s the type of crowd. A group of five rowdy people can have an introvert running in the opposite direction and yet, they’re absolutely comfortable in a room full of quiet, polite people. A lot of noise and clamoring mostly leaves them feeling restless and chaotic, which is why they’re usually to be found in the quiet corners of the room – or quiet places of the world.

  • They like deep talks. Gossips about actors and what the other person was wearing will have them phase out in half a minute, though they may feel guilty about it later (because introverts usually are amazing listeners). They like talking about things that genuinely interest you and that you love doing. Talk about your favorite music, a good book, your philosophy of life, your favourite sport. . .and you’ll instantly have their attention. Introverts usually seek a connection of some sort with the people they’re talking to in order to get comfortable with them. Give them that, and you might even have them open up to you!

  • They are more fun than you know. Your initiatives at getting to know them will never go unrewarded. Yes, it will take some efforts on your part in the beginning, but you’ll soon see it’s all worth it. Intoverts like to put their energy into action rather than speech. They’re constantly doing something and thinking up new ideas. You’ll be amazed at how much fun it is to be with an introvert and you will never get bored (ya, I know – completely the opposite of what you know about them)

  • They have a huge variety of interests. They’re always looking for ways to stimulate their brain. They’re interested in everything from quiet activities like reading, sketching, designing and gardening, to dynamic ones like learning guitar, hiking, exploring, playing basketball and photography. Introverts are open to new ideas and in their own quiet ways , they’re constantly trying to improve their lives, pushing their limits and trying to be the better version of themselves.

  • They just want to be left alone sometimes. Though they’re used to it, sometimes they just get tired of people asking them why they like to be alone and why they are so quiet. Not to mention people whispering amongst themselves about how weird the introverts are. Yes – they notice, yes – they ignore. But sometimes it can get too much for them too. Which is when your average introvert will crawl into her/his den and recharge with a hot cup of coffee and a book – for days at a time.

  • They notice much more than they let on. Since they’re not much into speaking, they observe. By the time you approach to talk to them, they’ve probably noticed everything from your subtle body language to your mood to your expression to…well, everything else about you. They’ve probably been noticing you and everyone else around them quietly for a while. Don’t fret, it’s not creepy. It’s just how they are.

  • They are not weak; they’re rather stronger than most. People have a habit of taking the silence of an introvert for weakness. Nothing could be more inaccurate. They just don’t like to get into petty fights and silly arguments, because they have better things to put their energy into. They would expect you to take care of your actions because they know how to take care of theirs.

  • They are selectively social. If you thought that an intovert has no social life, you thought wrong. Like everything else, they want a fulfilling and a meaningful social life. They prefer friendships over acquaintances and focus more on bonding with a few people than forming skin-deep relationships with many.

  • They make amazing friends. What with their ability to really listen and understand – and not just hear you, coupled with all the good advice that they always have in hand, introverts make amazing friends. Also, since they like to have a few meaningful relationships, you’ll have the privilege of being one of the lucky few who they really invest in. Not to mention the unlimited ideas they have and their openness to even more ideas, you’ll constantly be up to something new and stimulating, never getting bored.

P.S : After they open up to you, introverts are hardly the quiet person they were when you first talked to them. They’re rather the opposite! So, brace yourself for all the weirdness!

  • They might not be a fan of parties, but they sure love to “hang out”. With people they’re comfortable with, who do not find their silence strange. An intovert can spend an entire day hanging out with a small group of people, simply listening to them. They rather enjoy the vibe of a few close people chit-chatting about this and that because it gives them a feeling of belonging.

  • They do NOT have an endless patience. Yes, they stay quiet through the many prejudices people throw at them and let people wring them out for their own wrapped up reasons, because they don’t want to get involved in a small squabbles, but it builds up. The intoverts will keep themselves as much as possible from expressing their resentment, but if you have an introvert bellow at you, you’ve probably earned it big time!

  • A good deed goes a long way with them. Since their interactions are limited, each interaction matters to them. They will probably remember in detail what you told them the last time you talked. So if you had a pleasant exchange or did something nice for them, they’ll sure remember it forever – and reciprocate in kind!

Introverts are not aliens from another planet transported to earth to weird you out. They’re simply people with a different personality and preference for the way they want to live their lives. Maybe it’s worthwhile to try to understand them because who knows, they could teach us a thing or two through their quiet manner and colorful minds and maybe, at the end we realize that it wasn’t they who were strange, but it was we who were weird to think that they were so!

How to live the life of your dreams!

So. . .here you are. You’re somehow trying to live through the day and you just can’t get rid of the feeling that you’re doing nothing big, nothing life changing, world altering. There are so many people out there, hardly any age but world famous, changing the world, earning fame, already living the life most only dream of. And. . .here you are. Still trying to make sense of what is happening in your life and where you went wrong.

Why can’t you just be more like those people. . .doing something productive, trying something new, making a difference, eating good food and travelling to new places? All those people Instagramming photos of their beautiful lives full of sunshine and happiness? Why can’t your life be as joyous, as fulfilling as their’s?

Have you ever found asking yourself this? Because I certainly did.

In turn I realized it was time I took a step back and for once observed my life rather than took part in it. Introspection and reflection are important for anyone wanting to lead a fulfilling life. And what happened? I got exactly the answers I was looking for and I decided to share them with you, in case you are going through a similar crisis that I went through.

So, here are some things you can do to go ahead and make the most out of your 20s and take control of your life for the better:

1. Decide firmly to change your life – TODAY. No, I’m not talking about “Today is the last day I’m living like this. Tomorrow I’m going to go out there & seize the world.” Yesterday was the day you were your past self. Today you are different. Today is going to be the day you start living the life you want. State it to yourself. And FIRMLY.

2. Think – REALLY think about what kind of life you want. Write all the major points down. Do you want to own a cottage in the middle of the forest? Or a fancy apartment in NYC? Do you want to travel the world? Or become famous artist or a writer? Absolutely nothing is impossible if you really have the will for it. Give yourself some time. Sit down and really think about what kind of life you want to live. You attract what you want so this is serious.

3. Stop procrastinating. Now this is one of the biggest mistakes I was making. Or maybe certainly the biggest. You will never get work done if you delay it. You want to do something? Close this post, go do it, and come back and read it later. Put your phone down and get work done. You want to live your life to its fullest. Not gonna happen if you stay glued to the screen.

4. Change at least one thing about your look. It could be getting a different haircut, a different shade of hair color, or a complete makeover including how you dress up. You will do different when you feel different.

5. Do that change you’ve been meaning to do for sometime now. Is it trying a new look? Or putting on that tapestry on the wall? Did you want to rearrange your room a bit? A change as minor as lighting up a candle everyday or going out for a stroll can have a major change on your mental health and your life as a whole.

6. Make major changes in your diet. Colas and burgers and all that junk you’ve been shoving down your throat is going to do nothing but make you even lazier. You need to dramatically lessen all those foods giving you empty calories. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables and take food that contains fiber. Green tea and lime water are your best friends. Throw away all that junk in your fridge RIGHT NOW, and go out and buy some healthy food. You will be surprised at how light you will feel by the end of the week!

7. Clean your home (or your hostel room) thoroughly. No matter how convinient staying messy seems, the clutter in your room, under your bed, inside your closet, on your bed, all attracts negative chi. So clean up. Now. And you will really be surprised how organized your mind will feel after you organize your space. In turn, an organized mind is a powerhouse for inspirational ideas and you’ll be ready to rock. As without, so within.

8. Start working towards at least one major goal in life. Want that dream house? Start saving today. Want to be a famous artist? Go out, get some paint, watch some videos and get going. Want to travel the world? Save up, or look for those jobs that pay you for going places. In short, do not let your dreams be dreams. Your wishes won’t come true if you don’t work for them to.

9. Remember: Small steps MATTER. People have set up entire empires from a thousand bucks. They started small. They are where they are because they believed that they could. Had they been like “meh! What can a thousand bucks do? It’s just wishful thinking”, they would have been no different than millions of other people who gave up and are now frustrated with their lives. So start. No matter how small it is, take that biggest step of your life, of starting toward fulfilling your dream. Buy paints, save for that guitar, for that house, for that dream destination.

10. Spend some money. Yeah I know it sounds paradoxical. “Save up!” I say on one hand and “Spend!” on the other. But you’ll need some basic supplies if you want to take control of your life. A few examples being a journal or a diary and some colored pens so you can keep track of your life and other things and basically keep things organized, a bulletin board to stick some quotes and pictures to keep you motivated and a list of your goals so you know what you want to focus on etc. Basically, anything to get you on the right track in your life.

11. Spend at least 45 minutes everyday on your favorite hobby. Is it photography? Is it journaling? Or playing basketball? Or learning DIY crafts or cooking or sketching or designing or reading? Whatever it is, no matter how busy your day is or how busy you get, you need to spend a minimum of 45 minutes doing what you love. It decreases your stress level dramatically and would make you more productive. And who knows? You might actually end up making a living out of it! What could be better? P.S : Watching TV, playing videogames or anything that keeps you stuck to that cursed screen is NOT included.

12. Carry a notepad with you wherever you go. Buy a small one for convinience, but make sure to do so. Good ideas come into our minds at the most inappropriate times. You might sit for hours on end hopelessly trying to get an idea about something without an ounce of success. And then you go for grocery shopping and suddenly you get the most brilliant idea you ever got in your life. Yes, you certainly need a notepad for times like these. I have recently started to carry a notepad with me wherever I go. Ideas hardly escape me now, no matter how hard they may try!

13. Maintain a personal diary. Now this one is one of THE most underrated but one of the most efficient methods to get your track on life. Writing in a diary is like talking to your higher self and connecting to the universe. It is not wrongly said that all answers are already there within you. You simply need to listen. A diary helps you do exactly that. Maintain a diary and you will see how organized, efficient and joyful your life becomes, all because you will be in touch with your real self. So get that diary and a cup of hot chocolate at the end of each day, and get started!

14. Get up an hour earlier each day. You will realize how important this is when you see how your entire day changes with that extra hour. You’ll be more relaxed, more productive and more satisfied at the end of the day. That goes with the saying that you still need at least 6 hours of sleep each day. So, change your sleeping time accordingly. And trust me, you need that extra hour!

15. Exercise. No, you’re not going to hear the end of how important exercising is to your body, your mind and your emotional well being. Exercising helps your body destroy all those free radicals that are eating your body from within, leaving you feeling lethargic and lazy. Also giving you them dreaded acne! It’ll help you utilize all the extra calories and body fat leaving you feel good about yourself. So get up and get in shape!

16. Meditate. No, I’m not talking about that boring old meditation where you close your eyes and sit for two hours trying to empty your mind and ending up focusing on exactly what you wanted to forget. There are some amazing guided meditations and visualizations out there. You could try other ways of meditations like focusing on a candle flame. Practice some or any of these and you’ll feel refreshed, energized, calm and in control of your life.

You might think your life is pretty serious and stressful, but it can be azing and glorious if you want it to be. So, go out there, have fun, learn, seize every opportunity, experiment, experience and live a life without boundaries. Because hey, once you lose this period of your life, you’re never getting it back again!
